ACS Shortlisted in Seamless Awards 2017

HONG KONG, 27 April, 2017 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 2086), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), was declared a finalist in Seamless Awards 2017. ACS was recognized under the Seamless Government Experience category for its entry, “Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.”
The entry refers to an initiative launched by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to bring a full spectrum of labor-related transactions online. In 2013, the UAE government’s Ministry of Labor launched an online platform where employers and employees can perform e-government transactions, such as applying for labor permits or submitting employee contracts. End users are authenticated into the platform with an e-certificate contained in their national IDs, as well as a PIN, to prevent impersonation.
The initiative uses ACS’s ACR89 Handheld Smart Card Reader. It is issued directly to companies, and distributed in service kiosks throughout the country. ACR89 is used to authenticate users through their national ID. This smart card reader with PIN-pad has been chosen for the project because of its tamper resistance, plug-and-play operation, long battery life, and low energy consumption. Of particular note is its Secure PIN Entry (SPE) support, which prevents exposure of the user PIN to personal computers and threats associated with them, as well as its tamper detection switch, which prompts the device to destroy contained data once it detects unauthorized intrusion.
