ACS Regional Sales Manager, Mr. Gordon Lee; and ACS Assistant Product Marketing Manager, Ms. Richelle Arjona, took over the reins for ACS in the conference as they delivered speeches about NFC.

ACS Presentation @ Cards Asia 2012

Gordon discussed NFC in relation to RFID and smart card technology. With the title “Is NFC equal to RFID? How to leverage NFC with smart card technology?”, his discussion enlightened the audience about NFC’s role as a subset of RFID technology, and as the current hottest commodity in the contactless industry. Gordon explained the three modes of NFC, namely, the reader/writer, card emulation and peer-to-peer communication modes. The last two modes of which are what separate NFC from traditional RFID devices. Likewise, he enumerated the various form factors where NFC can be built, showing how flexible and versatile the technology is in terms of practical applications. In conclusion to his presentation, Gordon showed the effects of NFC to the smart card technology industry, explaining that the growth of the former results to more demands in card and reader deployments for the latter.

On the other hand, Richelle’s presentation, entitled “NFC: Why is it for me?”, dealt with the definition and prevailing market trends of NFC technology, underscoring the role of NFC in the age of converging technologies. She provided various examples of how the components of this technology, including contactless cards and readers, are used to make daily transactions much easier, particularly within the sectors of transportation and payment. Richelle also highlighted the role of ACS in today’s growing NFC industry by showing a number of project references illustrating ACS’s successful NFC deployments throughout the world. Through these topics, she was able to demonstrate the applicability of NFC in everyone’s daily undertakings.

One of Asia’s biggest events for the cards sector, Cards and Payments Asia was held this year at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore from the 25th to the 27th of April, 2012. ACS took advantage of this gigantic platform for industry players and consumers alike by showcasing its existing dynamic range of NFC readers, namely, the ACR122U NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader, ACR1222L VisualVantage NFC Reader with LCD and ACR122T Contactless Smart Card Reader, as well as the ACR1251U CCID-compliant NFC Reader, which is expected to be released this year.
