ezlinkreader_cardHONG KONG, Aug 17, 2009- Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number one supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, announces today that its ACR122 reader, the world's first NFC reader compliant with CCID, now supports the EZ-Online system, allowing ez-link card users to manage their new ez-link cards at home.

The new ez-link card, used for transportation and retail payment segments in Singapore, follows a standard based on ISO14443 contactless technology -- CEPAS (Contactless e-Purse Application Specification), set by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. The ACR122 is one of the first NFC readers supporting ISO14443 A&B, Mifare card, Felica card and other NFC tags in the market. With a wide range of cards supported, the ACR122 allows for a smooth transition from existing to new ez-link cards and is also ready for future mobile NFC applications. In addition, the ACR122 is CCID compliant (Chip/Smart Card Interface Devices) and minimizes the troubles of driver installation for end-users.

ez-onlineWith the ACR122, ez-link card users can do the following at home through the EZ-Online application on the Internet:

  • Check and print the most recent 30 transaction records of the ez-link card
  • Top-up the ez-link card from a MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card account
  • Do online shopping

"Since the ACR122 was launched in late 2007, its market penetration is very good. We are glad that ACS was chosen to take part in this groundbreaking EZ-Online project," said Gilbert Leung, Sales Director of ACS. "The ACR122 NFC Reader has been effectively proven in this project which also highlights again the competence of ACS products supporting contactless and NFC technologies."

About EZ-Link

A subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority, EZ-Link Pte Ltd was formed on 8 January 2002. Its core business is the clearing and settlement of all ez-link card transactions generated in transit and non-transit (retail/merchant) environments, as well as the sale, distribution and overall management of ez-link cards. Prior to CEPAS, EZ-Link had issued over 10 million ez-link cards. To date, the company has sold and replaced over 3 million new ez-link cards which are CEPAS-compliant. This is in tandem with the Singapore government’s plan to promote cashless payments in Singapore. In line with this vision, the new ez-link card is now also accepted as a mode of payment for Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) and soon at carparks fitted with the Electronic Payment System (EPS) when used in the 2nd Generation In-vehicle Unit (2GIU).
EZ-Link also introduced the FEVO card in 2009, marking the first time in Singapore that a non-bank entity is authorized to issue a pre-paid card that offers its customers an innovative payment option which has the convenience of a reloadable stored-value card that is accepted at over 28.5 million retailers and merchants around the world.
