ACS addresses current market trends with versatile ACOS6 and ACOS7 smart cards
HONG KONG, 26 Jul, 2010 -- Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number one supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, today addresses the current market trends with versatile ACOS6 Multi-application & Purse (MAP) Card and ACOS7 Dual Interface Smart Card . Multiplicity is Key: ACOS6 Multi-application & Purse (MAP) Card Recently, the ACOS6 was deployed for two major projects in Eastern Europe - an e-purse card system for factories and an e-ID system for universities. More than 100,000 pieces of ACOS6 cards were deployed to the factories, which were used by workers to buy food and other items in their canteen without using any cash. Meanwhile, 60,000 pieces were supplied to the universities where the ACOS6 cards were developed based on its local government's specification for student ID cards. The viability of ACOS6 for various applications draws from its capability to address the requirements of multiple applications and multiple e-purses with secured access hierarchy of multiple levels. ACOS6 allows developers to incorporate more than one application in just one card, since individual applications are secured and use separate e-purses. This means that a single ACOS6 card can alternately fulfill the function of a membership card, a prepaid card and loyalty card, etc. Likewise, it can be enhanced by using the ACOS6-SAM (Security Access Module) Card that enables mutual authentication, secure messaging and key diversification to give applications added layers of security. Aboard AFC: ACOS7 Dual Interface Smart Card Introduced in the final quarter of 2009, the ACOS7 by ACS achieved the certification for compliance with China's Ministry of Construction (MoC) standard, a national "All-in-One Card" standard defined by the Chinese Government. The standard was established as a result of the MoC's vast involvement in nationwide "All-in-One Card" projects, which entailed the usage of a single smart card for multiple applications, for transit and/or non-transit. This certification provides testament to ACOS7's versatility, and gives it license to enter the booming Automated Fare Collection (AFC) projects in China and the rest of the world. A dual interface card, ACOS7 supports both contact and contactless interfaces. Optionally, it can be developed with only the contactless interface. ACOS7 is also compliant with the global ISO7816-4 standard. It supports secure e-purse and e-deposit transactions, and can be applied in transportation, retail, property and utility supply management, parking toll, and more. ACS launches APG8201 and APG8202 dynamic OTP generators for e-banking security
HONG KONG, 6 Sep, 2010 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number one supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, today announces the launch of APG8201 PINhandy 1 and APG8202 PINhandy 2 One-Time Password (OTP) Generators. Both new products are designed to provide banking customers with an easy implemented solution to process bank transactions securely. Trusteer, an internet security firm, based in the USA, reports in a study involving more than four million respondents that 73% of internet banking clients share their online banking password with at least one non-financial website, while 47% share both their online banking username and password with at least one non-financial website. These numbers reveal an alarming trend in web activity, which makes it easier for internet crime groups to steal online identity (i.e. username and password) from those less secure non-financial websites and then carry out frauds in the financial service websites. (Source: Reuters, 2010) In order to provide banking clients a secure way to manage their bank accounts by internet, ACS offers OTP generators to authenticate cardholders. Utilizing two-factor mutual authentication, cardholder first inserts his banking card (something he has) into the OTP generator, either APG8201 PINhandy 1 or APG8202 PINhandy 2, and enters his PIN code (something he knows) via the built-in PIN-pad. Both factors must be verified in order to generate an OTP, which is a unique and non-reusable password. Using this OTP, clients can securely login their account or process a transaction. "The launch of these two new products signifies our commitment to providing security to the banking sector using smart card technology," stated Gilbert Leung, Sales Director of ACS. "We have found a way to provide banking clients with a solution that strikes a balance between the ease and security of managing their online accounts." Both devices, APG8201 and APG8202, function the same under standalone mode, and are compliant with major international standards, namely ISO 7816, EMV Level 1, MasterCardR CAP, MasterCardR PLA and Visa DPA. The only difference is that APG8201 PINhandly 1 offers the additional function to support PC-linked mode for other smart card applications. With its Secure PIN Entry (SPE) support, APG8201 PINHandy 1 ensures that every PIN code entered via its keypad will not be exposed to security threats even when it is connected to the PC. ACS launches AET62 NFC Reader with Fingerprint Sensor for use in authentication and identification
HONG KONG, 18 Oct, 2010 -Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number one supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, today launches the new AET62 NFC Reader with Fingerprint Sensor, a combination that enables convenience and trust for contactless smart card applications. ACS is the world's first supplier of NFC (Near Field Communication) and Felica card reader with compliance to CCID standard, and is one of the world's pioneering supplier of fingerprint scanner integrated with a contact smart card reader. With its dedicated R&D efforts to implement new technical solutions, ACS successfully added AET62 to its product portfolio. NFC is a type of contactless technology that has increasingly gained popularity in recent years. In Asia alone, the contactless card market is predicted to find widespread acceptance by 2012, with NFC-based e-Passport and mass transit projects being the key drivers propelling its unprecedented growth (Frost & Sullivan, August 2010). Capitalizing on this trend, ACS developed AET62 to provide a whole new level of security using fingerprint identification and verification in contactless applications. AET62 is designed by adopting the ACS ACR122U NFC reader core and incorporating the swipe fingerprint sensor. With these components, AET62 employs multi-factor authentication that requires a user to present something he knows (PIN or password), something he has (contactless card) and something he is (e.g. inherited, attributes, fingerprint). Either 2 or 3 factors need to be verified before allowing the user to proceed further, thus making it difficult for unauthorized individuals to bypass security and on the other hand helping with the combat of identity theft. Likewise, the match-on-device authentication is employed to verify the fingerprint template within the device itself, avoiding its exposure to PC's that are vulnerable to security attacks. "With AET62, fingerprint authentication can easily be integrated to increase the security of contactless applications," explained Mr. Gilbert Leung, ACS Sales Director. "It allows developers and system integrators to use biometrics even without an in-depth knowledge of the technology and without the need for a costly and complex setup of a full scale biometric authentication scheme." As a contactless reader, AET62 supports ISO 14443 Types A and B, MiFare and FeliCa cards, all four types of NFC tags, and all three modes of NFC (reader, card emulation, and peer-to-peer). Meanwhile, it can also support third-party fingerprint algorithms. The device comes with Application Programming Interface manuals and reference documents to facilitate its integration into new and existing systems. Learn more about AET62 at here. ACS Introduces its new AET65 Smart Card Reader with Fingerprint Sensor
HONG KONG, 1 Mar, 2011 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number 1 supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), today introduces AET65, a Smart Card Reader with Fingerprint Sensor that uses biometric technology to enhance the security in many smart card applications. Biometric authentication remains to be the most effective solution for applications requiring a higher level of security. A method that accurately identifies individuals by analyzing their unique biological characteristics-such as fingerprints and vocal patterns-biometric authentication practically eliminates the risk of identity fraud. There are two ways of implementing a biometric authentication system, or in this case fingerprint authentication system, using fingerprint recognition algorithm: the 1:1 and 1:N recognition algorithms. The 1:N algorithm compares the captured fingerprint with N number of fingerprints stored. This setup could be costly if high speed and high reliability are sought after, especially if N is a big figure. “ACS addresses the downside in setting up a security system solely based on biometrics by developing smart card readers with an integrated fingerprint sensor - AET65 devices. The AET65 device uses the 1:1 algorithm which compares the scanned fingerprint with the fingerprint template stored securely in the smart card held by the user. “There is a device in the existing ACS product portfolio that is similar to AET65, namely the AET63. The AET63 uses an area sensor whereas the AET65 uses a swipe fingerprint sensor. Through the integration of the smart card reader and the fingerprint sensor, ACS provides an effective solution in utilizing biometric authentication with high security,” explained Mr. Gilbert Leung, ACS Sales Director. “We have dedicated our efforts to expanding and improving this revolutionary product line to satisfy the multiple requirements of our customers.” Developed from the ACR38U SAM core and UPEK’S highly durable swipe fingerprint sensor, which has been tested to endure over 10 million swipes, AET65 is the latest addition to ACS’s smart card and fingerprint readers product line. It is capable of performing multi-factor authentication. Verification is done using a smart card (indicating what you have), a PIN/password (indicating what you know), and/or a fingerprint specimen (indicating who you are) before enabling an individual to proceed further. This way, security risks posed by dummy fingerprints or stolen cards are eliminated. Moreover, the match-on-device authentication feature prevents all sensitive data from being exposed to various security threats. With these capabilities, AET65 provides high security in applications such as e-banking, e-payment, network security and logical access control. AET65 supports ISO-7816 Class A, B and C cards, with the T=0 or T=1 protocol, and also has USB and PC/SC compliance for interoperability across various platforms and systems. Besides having an embedded default fingerprint algorithm, it can support many other popular third-party fingerprint algorithms, including those used in widely deployed national programs and those compliant with the most stringent global industry standards (such as the algorithm using Match-On-Card technology). To learn more about AET65, visit http://acs.com.hk/index.php?pid=product&prod_sections=0&id=AET65. About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd.
