HSPD-12 (Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12) was signed by US President George W. Bush in August 2004 to create a mandatory standard for IDs issued by the US government to its employees and employees of federal contractors. To fulfil the technical requirements of HSPD-12, the US National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) developed FIPS 201 (Federal Information Processing Standard Publication 201), which specifies personal identity verification (PIV) standards for personnel covered under HSPD-12. ACS will be displaying its FIPS 201 and TAA‒compliant products: ACR38U-I1, a PC-linked smart card reader for smart cards conforming to ISO7816; and the ACR38U-ND, an ultra-portable mobile card reader with microUSB interface, for full-sized contact smart cards. ACS will also be displaying its contactless readers: ACR122, a PC/SC and CCID-compliant NFC reader; ACR1251, a next-generation reader for both NFC tags and NFC devices; ACR1281, a dual interface reader for high-speed, highly demanding applications; and the ACR1252, an NFC Forum-Certified reader that performs the three NFC modes and is guaranteed to be interoperable with other NFC devices.
