(ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific’s number 1 supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), launches its ACR1281S-C1 DualBoost II Serial Dual Interface Smart Card Reader, the serial RS-232 version in the ACR1281 DualBoost II dual interface reader series. This serial version has been introduced to accommodate more devices, such as POS terminals, vending machines, and so forth, which have different serial ports. The ACR1281S-C1 DualBoost II is an upgrade from the ACR128U DualBoost, ACS’s first-generation dual interface reader. The ACR1281S-C1 DualBoost II is more flexible and convenient, because it offers USB firmware upgrade, supports contact memory cards, and accommodates applications that are not PC-based through its serial interface. It also has excellent compatibility with existing and future systems. Other features include: Support for a wide range of cards Supports not only contactless cards (ISO 14443 types A&B cards, Mifare, Mifare DESFire, and Mifare Plus) but also ISO7816-compliant contact MCU and memory cards Security Has a built-in ISO7816-compliant secure access module (SAM) slot for safer transactions Flexibility Has serial RS-232 interface and driverless operation for easy integration to different devices, such as vending machines and POS terminalsIs firmware-upgradable to keep pace with future system enhancements Intelligent support for hybrid and combi cards Can detect contactless cards or contactless interface of hybrid /combi cards incorrectly inserted into the contact card slot High performance for demanding applications Has contactless extended APDU support and high read/write speed to quickly process large amounts of data The ACR1281S-C1 is part of the ACR1281 DualBoost II dual interface reader series. Aside from the serial version, the series also includes a USB version, the ACR1281U-C1. Both serial and USB versions were designed while keeping in mind the all-in-one card concept, which enables access to multiple applications (such as physical access control, transportation, and e-government) through just one card. Organizations and cities are getting closer to making the all-in-one card a reality by issuing dual interface cards that serve a wide array of purposes. This increases the need for an efficient dual interface reader, and the ACR1281 DualBoost II series was designed to fill this need.“A serial version of the dual interface reader is a more competitive reader-one that works with more devices, runs more applications, and is adapted more easily to changing systems,” said Mr Gilbert Leung, Vice President, Sales and Marketing of ACS. “Devices like the ACR1281S-C1 don’t just help users stick to a minimum number of devices for a maximum number of needs, but also improve the quality of life by streamlining technology.”For more information of ACR1281S-C1, please click here.   About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd. • ACS Talks About NFC and Mobile Commerce in Cards Asia 2013

HONG KONG, 20 May, 2013 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), delivered talks for Cards Asia 2013, which was held from 24 to 25 Apr in Singapore. Talks covered opportunities in near field communication (NFC) technology, and trends in mobile commerce (m-commerce). Speaking on behalf of ACS were Mr. Gilbert Leung, Vice President for Sales and Marketing, and Mr. Gordon Lee, Regional Sales Manager. Gilbert delivered a talk entitled, “NFC: Just a Payment Tool?” positing that although payment is the top-of-mind application whenever NFC is mentioned, there are other successful NFC applications outside of payment. While payment is no doubt a killer NFC application, other successful applications include the dissemination of digital content (whether promotional, e.g. discount coupons, or purely informational, e.g. city maps) to Felica mobile phones in Japan, using ACS’s ACR1222U-J4 Felica Web-to Reader. Gilbert added that NFC may also be used for physical and logical access control. Meanwhile, in his talk entitled, “Future Trends of m-Commerce,” Gordon noted that more advanced mobile phones present new opportunities for merchants. For example, they can turn mobile devices into point-of-sale (POS) terminals to cut down hardware investment costs. Instead of spending on a full-sized POS terminal, merchants can use mobile devices in conjunction with portable card readers that still enable a full range of payment capabilities. Gordon also enumerated factors influencing the use of mobile devices as POS terminals: hardware, operating systems (OS) and security. Merchants must consider, for example, whether the card readers they will use in conjunction with mobile devices can support the cards used by their market. He presented as examples ACS’s readers, which provide a match for each card type: the ACR31 can read magnetic stripe bank cards, the ACR38U can read EMV chip cards, and the ACR122T can read EMV contactless cards. All three readers are small enough to be used with current sleek, compact mobile devices. Gordon also said that app developers must consider whether the mobile payment apps they create would work seamlessly with major OS, while card reader developers must consider whether their drivers and libraries enable stable interface with relevant card types. Finally, manufacturers and developers must think about compliance to major payment certifications, to guarantee the security of using mobile devices as POS terminals. • ACS Discusses NFC for Connected Commerce in Cartes 2014

HONG KONG, 25 Nov, 2014 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), was a speaker in Cartes 2014, held in Paris, France, from Nov 4 to 6. Ms. Zoe Ko, ACS Manager for Sales and Marketing Communications, conducted a presentation entitled, “Advocating NFC Towards Connected Commerce.” In the presentation, Zoe highlighted an important distinction between traditional and connected commerce: more than ever, the latter enables shopping to be an instant activity. With traditional commerce, consumers would have to clip out coupons (or print out electronic ones to present during payment), make trips to stores, try out goods, and line up at counters to pay. Meanwhile, connected commerce enables customers to complete the entire shopping process without taking out a physical wallet or going to a brick-and-mortar establishment. It must be noted that with the advent of NFC, connected commerce is no longer confined to accessing websites to participate in transactions. Consumers, for example, can use a mobile device to snap a promotional coupon on the street, log onto a mobile commerce site, receive information from a business, and even review past purchases. As long as a customer has an NFC device, anywhere can be a touchpoint for interaction with a business. Businesses can become truly connected to a consumer’s daily routine in a non-intrusive way. An example cited in the presentation is e-PLUS TaptoPay, an NFC-powered, end-to-end loyalty and payment solution for the largest mall operator in the Philippines. Through a contactless card or NFC phone, the e-PLUS system enables consumers to make electronic payments, avail of discounts and other perks, and benefit from smart queuing in retail establishments. Solutions like e-PLUS are expected to gain wider traction in the next few years. Growth drivers include growing shipments of NFC-enabled phones, and safer, more flexible storage of NFC secure elements. ACS has long encouraged companies to leverage on the potential of NFC to improve services and maximize benefits for different stakeholders.
