ACS Introduces its new AET65 Smart Card Reader with Fingerprint Sensor
HONG KONG, 1 Mar, 2011 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number 1 supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), today introduces AET65, a Smart Card Reader with Fingerprint Sensor that uses biometric technology to enhance the security in many smart card applications. Biometric authentication remains to be the most effective solution for applications requiring a higher level of security. A method that accurately identifies individuals by analyzing their unique biological characteristics-such as fingerprints and vocal patterns-biometric authentication practically eliminates the risk of identity fraud. There are two ways of implementing a biometric authentication system, or in this case fingerprint authentication system, using fingerprint recognition algorithm: the 1:1 and 1:N recognition algorithms. The 1:N algorithm compares the captured fingerprint with N number of fingerprints stored. This setup could be costly if high speed and high reliability are sought after, especially if N is a big figure. “ACS addresses the downside in setting up a security system solely based on biometrics by developing smart card readers with an integrated fingerprint sensor - AET65 devices. The AET65 device uses the 1:1 algorithm which compares the scanned fingerprint with the fingerprint template stored securely in the smart card held by the user. “There is a device in the existing ACS product portfolio that is similar to AET65, namely the AET63. The AET63 uses an area sensor whereas the AET65 uses a swipe fingerprint sensor. Through the integration of the smart card reader and the fingerprint sensor, ACS provides an effective solution in utilizing biometric authentication with high security,” explained Mr. Gilbert Leung, ACS Sales Director. “We have dedicated our efforts to expanding and improving this revolutionary product line to satisfy the multiple requirements of our customers.” Developed from the ACR38U SAM core and UPEK’S highly durable swipe fingerprint sensor, which has been tested to endure over 10 million swipes, AET65 is the latest addition to ACS’s smart card and fingerprint readers product line. It is capable of performing multi-factor authentication. Verification is done using a smart card (indicating what you have), a PIN/password (indicating what you know), and/or a fingerprint specimen (indicating who you are) before enabling an individual to proceed further. This way, security risks posed by dummy fingerprints or stolen cards are eliminated. Moreover, the match-on-device authentication feature prevents all sensitive data from being exposed to various security threats. With these capabilities, AET65 provides high security in applications such as e-banking, e-payment, network security and logical access control. AET65 supports ISO-7816 Class A, B and C cards, with the T=0 or T=1 protocol, and also has USB and PC/SC compliance for interoperability across various platforms and systems. Besides having an embedded default fingerprint algorithm, it can support many other popular third-party fingerprint algorithms, including those used in widely deployed national programs and those compliant with the most stringent global industry standards (such as the algorithm using Match-On-Card technology). To learn more about AET65, visit http://acs.com.hk/index.php?pid=product&prod_sections=0&id=AET65. About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd. ACS participates as exhibitor and speaker in Cartes in Asia 2012
HONG KONG, 18 April, 2012 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number 1 supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), was among the exhibitors and speakers in the recently concluded Cartes in Asia Tradeshow and Conference, which was held at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong from 28 to 29 March, 2012. One of the event’s main highlights was the 2-day conference, in which ACS representatives, Ms. Zoe Ko and Mr. Steven Tang, delivered speeches about contactless payments and two factor authentication, respectively. Zoe, ACS’s Assistant Manager for Sales and Marketing Communications, was among the speakers in the NFC Technology & Applications session, while Steven, ACS’s Regional Sales Manager, was among the presenters in the e-Transactions/Banking conference. Zoe’s presentation on the “Future Trends of Contactless Payment for Transit and Non-Transit” covered the evolution of contactless payment applications. She explained how the infrastructure developed out of efforts to provide a more convenient alternative to cash, token or magnetic card based payments, and how it has transitioned to cover other sectors beyond transportation. Using ACS’s very own ACR122U NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader, Zoe demonstrated how this operation can easily be done with the use of a contactless reader and a contactless card. Furthermore, she emphasized on the entrance of NFC technology, and how it presents more opportunities for the industry by allowing NFC-enabled devices other than cards, such as mobile phones, to be used for making contactless payments. Meanwhile, Steven’s topic about “Discussing Alternatives of 2-Factor Authentication of e-Banking Transactions” introduced various two-factor authentication solutions-from traditional OTP tokens to more sophisticated methods using smart card and EMV technology, and dynamic password generators. Steven used ACS’s very own APG8201 and APG8202 PINHandy Dynamic Password Generators to show how banking merchants and customers alike can execute secure online banking transactions and prevent getting victimized by fraudulent attacks. In conclusion, he emphasized that banks themselves have the discretion when it comes to choosing the right two-factor authentication solution that best satisfies their need for security, manageability, implementation, ease of use and scalability. ACS's Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Mr. Gilbert Leung, spoke on the company’s behalf and expressed his gratitude for ACS’s ability to share its expertise on NFC technology and e-Banking during Cartes’ conference sessions. “We hope that through these presentations, we were able to let both players and enthusiasts of this industry better appreciate the expanding role of smart card technology in providing more convenient and secure solutions for the payment and banking sectors,” Gilbert commented.
