Mr Gordon Lee, Sales Manager, represented ACS to receive the award. Smart Awards Asia recognizes excellence in the smart card, payment, and retail industries. ACS’s winning entry is e-PLUS Tap to Pay (e-PLUS), a loyalty, payment, and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system developed based on NFC (Near Field Communications) technology for SM Prime Holdings Inc., the largest mall operator, developer, and retail company in the Philippines. e-PLUS unifies multiple merchants and applications in one platform, increasing the array of options and benefits available to consumers. e-PLUS also widens reach for merchants, providing them with a way to offer perks to a broader customer base, while fulfilling other marketing strategic needs. “This project is a result of effective collaboration with our client, which has enabled us to design a system that delivers sophisticated benefits to a country where NFC has not yet hit the mainstream,” says Gordon. “This award should be credited not only to the technologies that we have developed in-house, but the amount of thought and effort that we put to tailor these technologies to the needs and environments of end users.” For more information about ACS solutions, email [email protected]. ACS Launches ACR890 All-In-One Mobile Smart Card Terminal and Software Development Kit
HONG KONG, 8 May, 2015 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), launched the ACR890 All-In-One Mobile Smart Card Terminal, which combines magnetic stripe, contact, and contactless technologies. ACS also launched the ACR890 Software Development Kit (SDK). “Even as older systems require replacement, companies cannot just throw out systems they have invested in,” says Gilbert Leung, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “We are thus glad to offer solutions that will help companies that are transitioning from, say, magnetic stripe to contactless, or combining different interfaces for their applications. At the same time, our solution has new features to improve the overall experience of users. ” ACR890 combines wireless data communication, firmware-upgradeability, and highly interactive user interface features (high-resolution color display, touch screen LCD, audio speaker and built-in thermal printer). It can use different connectivity types (GPRS/3G, Wi-Fi, USB, and serial ports) to communicate with other external devices within a network. ACR890 accommodates organizations with different technological standards by supporting ISO 7816‒compliant Class A, B, and C cards; ISO 14443‒compliant Type A and B cards; MIFARE Classic Cards; FeliCa Cards; and ISO 7811 Tracks 1, 2, and 3 magnetic stripe cards. Its contactless support makes it ideal for mass-market applications, such as transport, loyalty, and payment. Its contact interface makes it suited for e-government applications, while its magnetic stripe support makes it applicable for loyalty and e-purse applications. It is standalone and handheld, making it primarily a field-based device. However, its different connectivity types make it also suitable for office-based operations. Meanwhile, the SDK contains a standalone device demo, a simulation of a bus fare application, and device setting configurations. It also contains sample codes (which include source codes to help users develop their own applications), user manuals, and other reference documents. “ACR890 is versatile, high-performing, and priced competitively,” adds Gilbert. “We are confident that it can become an indispensable part of many solutions worldwide.” ACR890 is also compliant with CE, FCC, and RoHS2. ACS Discusses EMV in Cards & Payments Asia 2015
HONG KONG, 29 April, 2015 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), participated in Cards & Payments Asia 2015, which was held from 22 to 23 April, in Singapore. Michael Chan, Assistant Product Marketing Manager, conducted a presentation entitled, “What Makes Migration to EMV a Smart Bet for the Banking Sector.” EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) is a global secure standard for payment transactions. It covers card-present transactions using a contact chip interface. Currently, almost 30 percent of card-present transactions worldwide are EMV. These figures are expected to be driven up further by high fraud rates, and the lack of cost-effective processing and reliable communications infrastructure. With EMV, banks benefit from more approved transactions and greater revenues. Banks are also able to reduce expenses stemming from the need to reissue cards due to card counterfeiting. Michael presented business cases to demonstrate the impacts of EMV in an organization. He emphasized, however, that EMV deployment is more than a matter of buying new technology; it is also a matter of finding suitable resources and partners. With the right resources and partners, banks can ensure that migration to an EMV system will progress painlessly. There are quite a number of considerations associated with EMV migration. An issuer should be able to address concerns that include key management, card personalization, PIN assignment, branch issuance, clearing and settlement, and consumer education. Meanwhile, the acquirer-in this case, the banking sector-will need to be able to address concerns regarding customer support, merchant training, terminal management, and so forth. Transitioning to EMV will introduce a dynamic element to each transaction that that elevates security. In addition, EMV has risk management capabilities that issuers can maximize when authorizing transactions at point-of-sales (POS), making security flexible. For more information about EMV and EMV solutions, email [email protected]. About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd. ACS Discusses NFC for Connected Commerce in IOTE 2015
HONG KONG, 26 August, 2015 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), conducted a presentation entitled, "Advocating NFC Technology Towards Connected Commerce" at the Mobile Payment Forum session during IOTE 2015. Mr. Ken Tang, ACS Sales Director for China, conducted the presentation. He highlighted an important distinction between traditional and connected commerce: more than ever, the latter enables shopping to be an instant activity. With traditional commerce, consumers would have to clip out coupons (or print out electronic ones to present during payment), make trips to stores, try out goods, and line up at counters to pay. Meanwhile, connected commerce enables customers to complete the entire shopping process without taking out a physical wallet or going to a brick-and-mortar establishment. With the advent of NFC, connected commerce is no longer confined to accessing websites to participate in transactions. Consumers, for example, can use a mobile device to snap a promotional coupon on the street, log onto a mobile commerce site, receive information from a business, and even review past purchases. As long as a customer has an NFC device, anywhere can be a touchpoint for interaction with a business. Businesses can become truly connected to a consumer’s daily routine in a non-intrusive way. An example cited in the presentation is e-PLUS TaptoPay, an NFC-powered, end-to-end loyalty and payment solution for the largest mall operator in the Philippines. Through a contactless card or NFC phone, the e-PLUS system enables consumers to make electronic payments, avail of discounts and other perks, and benefit from smart queuing in retail establishments. Solutions like e-PLUS are expected to gain wider traction in the next few years. Growth drivers include growing shipments of NFC-enabled phones, and safer, more flexible storage of NFC secure elements. ACS has long encouraged companies to leverage on the potential of NFC to improve services and maximize benefits for different stakeholders. For more information on ACS’s NFC solutions, email [email protected] or visit www.acs.com.hk. About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd.
