  • ACS Introduces Software Development Kit for ACOS7 and ACOS10 Combi Cards

HONG KONG, 26 Mar 2013 - Advanced Card Systems (ACS) Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), today introduces a software development kit (SDK) for the ACOS7 and ACOS10 Combi cards. The SDK’s technical documents, demo application, and smart card and reader tool offer Chinese language support, in addition to English. “More and more countries are embracing smart card technology,” says Gilbert Leung, vice president for sales and marketing of ACS. “China, specifically, released a remarkable number of smart cards for use in banking, transport, and other areas. In connection to this, and to the increasing prevalence of the Chinese language globally, we have decided to incorporate Chinese language support for this SDK.” The 2011–2015 plan of China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) states that China’s government has issued around 450 million integrated circuit (IC) cards and is expected to issue around 800 million more by 2015, just for banking. MOHRSS further states that IC cards-under which the ACOS7 and ACOS10 Combi are classified-are expected to gain wider usage in the Asia-Pacific (APAC). Banks in the APAC are gradually migrating to IC cards, which can accommodate multiple uses besides banking and payment, are more secure, and are less easily counterfeited than magnetic strip cards. The ACOS7 was designed primarily to meet the requirements of the world automated fare collection (AFC) market. In keeping with the concept of the all-in-one card, the ACOS7 has a dual interface, and supports multiple e-purse and e-deposit transactions. Meanwhile, the ACOS10 Combi is an ideal banking solution, supporting credit load and unload, purchase, withdrawal, overdraw limit updates, and transaction log reviews. Both cards have passed different certifications and complied with various industry standards. ACOS 7 is compliant with ISO 7816 Parts 1–4, ISO 14443 Parts 1–4, and the Ministry of Construction (MoC) Standard in China (which ensures that it can meet the requirements of automated fare collection or AFC, and e-payment). Meanwhile, the ACOS10 Combi Card is compliant with ISO 7816 Parts 1–4, ISO 14443 Parts 1–4. Both cards support People’s Bank of China (PBOC) e-Deposit and e-Purse payment applications. The SDK includes tools such as ACS QuickView, PC/SC Learning Tool, ACS Script Tool 3, and the ACS Smart Card and Reader Tool. Sample codes are available in the most commonly used programming languages. Through these, developers can significantly reduce research and development time, engineering costs, and time-to-market. The SDK is priced at $119. It is intended to help developers create new applications and systems, or incorporate the ACOS smart cards into existing applications for transportation, retail, property management, car parking, utility supply, and so forth.Learn more about the ACOS7 and ACOS10 Combi Card SDK here.   About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd. • ACS Presents on NFC and Mobile in Cartes Asia 2013

HONG KONG, 15 Apr, 2013 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), delivered talks for Cartes Asia 2013, which was held on Mar 27 to 28 in Hong Kong. ACS’s Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Mr. Gilbert Leung and Assistant Product Marketing Manager, Mr. Lincoln Tang, delivered talks on the areas of near field communication (NFC) technology, and mobile device adoption. Gilbert’s talk, entitled, “NFC: Just a Payment Tool?” discussed other applications for NFC outside of payment. These applications include a successful business case in Japan about the dissemination of digital content (which may be promotional, e.g. discount coupons, or purely informational, e.g. city maps) to Felica mobile phones by ACS’s ACR1222U-J4 Felica Web-to Reader. Gilbert added that NFC may also be used for access control, whether physical or logical. Recognizing the inseparability of growth in the usage of mobile phones and tablets, Lincoln presented entitled, “Preparation for Mobile Devices Adoption”. Widespread mobile use opens up opportunities for m-commerce. Using a mobile ticketing scenario, Lincoln illustrated that by anticipating the hardware adjustments that will incorporate smart card technology into mobile devices, m-commerce providers can cut down transaction times and create a market for mobile smart card applications. He elaborated that the principles demonstrated in the mobile ticketing example also apply to other vital services, such as digital signing and network access control, among others. ACS, as a leader in the smart card reader market, has in fact taken advantage of consumers shifting from PC to mobile transactions by developing the ACR31, an audio jack swipe card reader that can read bank magnetic stripe cards when working in conjunction with any mobile device running on iOS or Android. • ACS Talks About NFC and Mobile Commerce in Cards Asia 2013

HONG KONG, 20 May, 2013 - Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's top supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), delivered talks for Cards Asia 2013, which was held from 24 to 25 Apr in Singapore. Talks covered opportunities in near field communication (NFC) technology, and trends in mobile commerce (m-commerce). Speaking on behalf of ACS were Mr. Gilbert Leung, Vice President for Sales and Marketing, and Mr. Gordon Lee, Regional Sales Manager. Gilbert delivered a talk entitled, “NFC: Just a Payment Tool?” positing that although payment is the top-of-mind application whenever NFC is mentioned, there are other successful NFC applications outside of payment. While payment is no doubt a killer NFC application, other successful applications include the dissemination of digital content (whether promotional, e.g. discount coupons, or purely informational, e.g. city maps) to Felica mobile phones in Japan, using ACS’s ACR1222U-J4 Felica Web-to Reader. Gilbert added that NFC may also be used for physical and logical access control. Meanwhile, in his talk entitled, “Future Trends of m-Commerce,” Gordon noted that more advanced mobile phones present new opportunities for merchants. For example, they can turn mobile devices into point-of-sale (POS) terminals to cut down hardware investment costs. Instead of spending on a full-sized POS terminal, merchants can use mobile devices in conjunction with portable card readers that still enable a full range of payment capabilities. Gordon also enumerated factors influencing the use of mobile devices as POS terminals: hardware, operating systems (OS) and security. Merchants must consider, for example, whether the card readers they will use in conjunction with mobile devices can support the cards used by their market. He presented as examples ACS’s readers, which provide a match for each card type: the ACR31 can read magnetic stripe bank cards, the ACR38U can read EMV chip cards, and the ACR122T can read EMV contactless cards. All three readers are small enough to be used with current sleek, compact mobile devices. Gordon also said that app developers must consider whether the mobile payment apps they create would work seamlessly with major OS, while card reader developers must consider whether their drivers and libraries enable stable interface with relevant card types. Finally, manufacturers and developers must think about compliance to major payment certifications, to guarantee the security of using mobile devices as POS terminals. To get more NFC and smart card technology information and explore existing NFC and mobile solutions, interested users may email [email protected].   About ACS Advanced Card Systems Ltd.
