  • ACS's new ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo enhances smart card transactions with its dual slot feature

HONG KONG, 11 Jan 20112– Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number 1 supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), launches the latest addition to its PC-Linked Smart Card Readers Series-the ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo. A device featuring an ingenious design for two full-sized smart cards and three SAM cards, the SmartDuo provides a quick, secure and cost effective way to implement various smart card applications. ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo's dual slot design provides the benefit of handling smooth and uninterrupted transactions. With its ability to hold and process two full-sized smart cards simultaneously, it eliminates the need to alternate between two smart cards that are required to implement certain applications. In various smart card-based services, the device can hold the service provider’s card in one slot, while the other slot remains open for use by any individual availing the said service. This results in faster and smoother transactions, with the added advantage of enhanced security since the device not only authenticates each end user, but also validates the authority of the service provider managing every single transaction. "The introduction of the dual slot solution resulted from our objective of providing service providers and end users alike with a way to get the most out of every transaction they perform using their smart cards. By having this kind of mindset and actions to match, ACS is able to remain on top of its game as a provider of smart card technology products, and in the process, ensures that customer demands are satisfied amidst the ongoing increase of popularity of smart cards worldwide," said Mr. Gilbert Leung, ACS Sales Director. ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo is compatible with ISO 7816 Class A smart cards, microprocessor cards with the T=0 and T=1 protocol, and most memory cards that are commonly available in the market. It connects to the PC via its USB Full Speed host interface, and has a read/write speed of 344 Kbps. ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo is a highly portable and durable smart card reader, measuring only 103.5 mm x 85.0 mm x 59.9 mm and capable of at least 200,000 card insertion cycles. Besides its dual slot feature, it also has 3 SAM (Secure Access Module) card slots that allow the device to cater to smart card applications requiring a higher level of security. Likewise, ACR33U-A1 SmartDuo is both PC/SC and CCID compliant, making it easy to install and use in PC environments. It is a highly powerful tool that can be used to provide security and convenience in applications such as e-Banking and e-Payment, e-Government, e-Healthcare, Physical and Logical Access Control, and Network Security. • ACS introduces new ACOS5-64 and CryptoMate64 cryptographic smart cards for seamless smart card security

HONG KONG, 6 February, 2012 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific's number 1 supplier and one of the world's top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), introduces two new smart card products that raised the bar in providing topnotch security for smart card applications. Belonging to ACS’s Smart Card and Card Operating Systems Product line, ACOS5-64 and CryptoMate64 combine smart card and cryptographic functions to support advanced security features such as Smart Card Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Digital Signature. An upgraded version of the ACOS5 smart card, ACOS5-64 is an advanced cryptographic smart card that complies with ISO7816-1/2/3/4/8/9 and common criteria EAL5+ (chip level) specifications. Designed to enhance the security and performance of RSA Public-key cryptographic operations, ACOS5-64 supports applications requiring high level security, including Secure Digital Email Signing, Network Security and Encryption. Further, it facilitates cost effective implementation as it allows multiple secure PKI applications to be stored in just one card. The USB token version of ACOS5-64, CryptoMate64, which is likewise an upgrade to a previous device called CryptoMate, houses a built-in ACOS5-64 Smart Card IC where cryptographic operations are performed rather than in the PC or terminal, eliminating the threat of hacking and sniffing of confidential data. It utilizes industry standard algorithms, such as RSA (up to 4096 bits), SHA-1, SHA-256, AES-128 / 192 / 256 and 3K 3DES. Despite its portable and lightweight design, CryptoMate64 provides one of the strongest authentication solutions in the market. Users who have experienced the quality of security provided by the old ACOS5 cards and CryptoMate will be pleased to know that these two new products offer something even better. Increased EEPROM size for faster performance, longer RSA keys for added cryptographic strength, and faster transmission rates are only some of the major enhancements boasted by both ACOS5-64 and CryptoMate64. Below is a table showing the respective technical specifications of ACOS5-64 and CryptoMate64 versus their predecessors:     ACOS5/ CryptoMate ACOS5-64/ CryptoMate64 High-Speed Support Up to 115,200 bps Up to 223,2000 bps 3DES Key Length 16 Byte 16, 24 Byte AES Support AES-128 AES-128, AES-192, AES-256 SHA Support SHA-1 SHA-1, SHA-256 Purse Application Not Supported Supported Memory Space 32 KByte 64 KByte RSA Operand Length RSA-512, 1024, 2048 RSA-512, 1024, 2048, 2304, 2560, 2816, 3072, 3328, 3584, 3840, 4096 With the help of ACS's newly developed smart card mini-driver, which is automatically will be downloaded automatically upon insertion of the devices to the PC, both ACOS5-64 and CryptoMate64 can easily be used in the latest Windows environments. Zoe, ACS’s Assistant Manager for Sales and Marketing Communications, was among the speakers in the NFC Technology & Applications session, while Steven, ACS’s Regional Sales Manager, was among the presenters in the e-Transactions/Banking conference. Zoe’s presentation on the “Future Trends of Contactless Payment for Transit and Non-Transit” covered the evolution of contactless payment applications. She explained how the infrastructure developed out of efforts to provide a more convenient alternative to cash, token or magnetic card based payments, and how it has transitioned to cover other sectors beyond transportation. Using ACS’s very own ACR122U NFC Contactless Smart Card Reader, Zoe demonstrated how this operation can easily be done with the use of a contactless reader and a contactless card. Furthermore, she emphasized on the entrance of NFC technology, and how it presents more opportunities for the industry by allowing NFC-enabled devices other than cards, such as mobile phones, to be used for making contactless payments. Meanwhile, Steven’s topic about “Discussing Alternatives of 2-Factor Authentication of e-Banking Transactions” introduced various two-factor authentication solutions-from traditional OTP tokens to more sophisticated methods using smart card and EMV technology, and dynamic password generators. Steven used ACS’s very own APG8201 and APG8202 PINHandy Dynamic Password Generators to show how banking merchants and customers alike can execute secure online banking transactions and prevent getting victimized by fraudulent attacks.
